2011 Memorial Day Parade

Westwood’s Memorial Day Parade will step off from the Town Hall and proceed to the Old Westwood Cemetery, where the Memorial Day observance will take place. More than 800 of Westwood's veterans have been invited to march in the parade.

Invited parade participants include the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of the American Revolution, The American Legion Post 320 Color Guard, and Westwood Fire Department Color Guard and Piper. Westwood’s Middle School and High School Bands and the Windjammer and Roma Bands will also be participating.

Director of Veterans’ Services, Chris McKeown will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Invited honored guests include the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Pat Ahearn, and United States Navy Captain Beth Ahearn, is the Parade Marshal. 

Megan Colby, an eighth grade student at the Thurston Middle School, will recite the Gettysberg Address.

There is a volunteer opportunity for anyone who wishes to help replace the flags and plant flowers on the graves of Veterans. 

Groups will be meeting on Friday, May 27 at 9:30 a.m. in the New Westwood Cemetery to refresh the flags, and on Saturday May 28, the group will again meet at 9:30 a.m. to plant a geranium on Veterans’ graves. 

All are welcome. Please bring planting tools for your own use on Saturday.
