Bio:

Matt graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in English/Journalism, and began his career as an intern at The Enterprise in Brockton, where he worked as a general assignment reporter. He then moved on to cover education for the Daily News Tribune in Waltham, and later worked as an assistant editor for print and online publications covering general business and the technology industry.

In his spare time, Matt is an avid reader of novels, poetry and magazines, and is constantly trying to fine-tune his skills as a fiction writer and journalist. He is also a fanatic of live music, traveling, and the outdoors.

Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
By the time he was finally able to vote, Matt's political views began to tilt to the left, and have pretty much remained there since. He is a registered Independent.

Religion
Matt was confirmed Catholic, but steered away from this denomination during college, and has since heavily explored both the Christian and Buddhist faiths.

Local Hot-Button Issues
Current items of note in Westwood include the development of University Station, a mixed-use project formerly known as Westwood Station, that looks to create space for retail, housing, office and hotel use. Also in the works is the development of a new Westwood Public Library on High Street, which is expected to be completed by late 2012.

Matt, are you the only editor doing all this work? If not, who else helps with getting information etc.

Matt- just curious how you guys validate Letters to the Editor, because I don't see any listing for a Steven Fitzsimmons in WW (or any Fitzsimmons in the town for that matter).

Would be a great idea to do a school survey --a kind of exit survey--from retiring / already retired WPS teachers!
