Girls Hockey Team Brings Strong Start to 2011 Season

The team defeated Latin Academy 9-2 on Wednesday.

The Wolverines girls' ice hockey team opened the season with a strong 9-2 win over Latin Academy on Wednesday at the Canton Metropolis Arena.

Westwood dominated the game and out-shot Latin 38 to 5 in a one-sided contest. Westwood had goals from nine different players.

Specifically, goals by Olivia Fay, Meghan Kelly, Ela Hazar, Katie Horsfall and Kelly Healy put Westwood out front 5-0 after the first period.

Senior captain Gabby Giugliano brought the game to 6-0 with a second period goal.

Kim Egizi, freshman Kat Heidleberger and Hannah Orcutt closed out the scoring with third period goals.

Christine Regan had three assists, while Sinead Walsh and freshman Lulu Swartz had two each for Westwood.

Senior Courtney Fay ultimately got the win in the net for Westwood.

The Wolverines take on King Philip on Saturday at 4 p.m. at home in Canton.
