Public Hearing for Prevett Oil Cancelled, Rescheduled for Aug. 10

Due to personal reasons, the Westwood Planning Board cancelled their meeting last minute Tuesday night.

The Westwood Planning Board cut a public hearing short Tuesday night, after Chairman Steven M. Rafsky was forced to leave due to a family medical emergency.

While the Board did open the meeting to approve minutes taken at the previous meeting, Board members adjourned within a matter of minutes.

The bulk of the meeting on Tuesday night looked to focus on the Environmental Impact and Design Review (EIDR) approval for the construction of a garage at Prevett Oil on 1198 East St. The garage would allow for the storage of oil delivery trucks on the Prevett Oil premises.

But with the abrupt cancellation of Tuesday night's meeting, the Prevett Oil hearing has been pushed to the Planning Board's meeting on Tuesday, August 10.

The August 10 meeting, however, will also focus on two public hearings that are already currently open.

The first is a continuation of a public hearing to consider the application for limited EIDR approval for the construction of an additional 99-car parking lot at the St. Margaret Mary parish, located at 837 High St. The Board will also consider the Earth Material Movement Special Permit that is associated with the EIDR approval of that lot.

Secondly, there will be a continuation of a public hearing to consider the EIDR approval that would allow Joseph and Marjorie Flanagan, owners of Harlequin Nursery at 215 High St., to complete renovations to the exiting driveway at the residential business. Those renovations include installation of a gravel parking lot, the creation of a landscape display area, and a display sign for the business.

The Planning Board approved that the Flanagans could install the sign at a public hearing on July 13, and the sign has since been installed at the premises. But the remaining renovations were not approved, and the Board asked that Joseph Flanagan revise the plans he presented at the July 13 meeting so that they can have a clearer picture of what is to be done on the property, and where.

As a result, the Planning Board looks to continue both of those hearings on August 10, as well as open the public hearing for the garage at Prevett Oil.

While the August 10 meeting originally was planned to begin at 7:30 p.m., it will instead begin at 6:45 p.m. to account for the unexpected additional public hearing.
