Westwood Police Log: June 7 – June 17

Vandalism, attempted larceny and suspicious activity round out this week's police report.

Vandals Strike Cobliegh, Everett Street

June 7, 3:37 p.m. - A Cobliegh Street resident reported an act of vandalism, according to police reports. The resident said eggs had been thrown at a bay window and a chair on the front porch of her house. When police arrived at the scene, the eggs appeared to have dried. Police ordered extra patrol of the neighborhood.

June 7, 4:25 p.m. - Police responded to reports of vandalism in a contractor's parking lot located on Everett Street. A contractor who stores equipment at the lot reported to police that the front windshield of his 1986 Ford Van, which was parked in the lot, had been smashed. While the lot is equipped with surveillance cameras, no evidence had been found of the vandalism in the video footage. Police believed the damage had occurred during the previous weekend, and requested extra patrols of the lot.

Attempted Car Theft at Clark House

June 8, 9:14 a.m. - A resident of the Clark House at Fox Hill Village on Longwood Drive called police to report an attempted break in of her vehicle sometime between 3:30 and 11 p.m. on Monday, June 7.

The resident attempted to get into her car, police said, when she realized that the lock had been completely removed from the driver's side door. Upon arrival, police determined that someone had attempted to gain entry to the vehicle by removing the lock. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle, and it did not appear that the car had been accessed, police said.

Stolen Car Found at Westwood High School

June 11, 1:18 a.m. - Police recovered a stolen 1997 Plymouth Neon in the parking lot of Westwood High School at 200 Nahatan St. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Boston Police Department on Wednesday, June 9, according to reports. When found by Westwood Police, the car's ignition cylinder had been removed and was sitting on the driver's side floor. Boston Police were contacted for recovery, the car was towed, and its owner was notified.

Break-in on University Avenue Under Investigation

June 11, 10:30 p.m. - A worker for Marble & Granite Inc., located at 270 University Ave., reported finding broken glass on the side of the company's building. Police responded and determined that someone had broken a window and gained access to the building when the alarm sounded. The suspect had vacated the premises when police arrived, and while there are surveillance cameras on the property, lighting conditions made it difficult to properly identify the individual. Nothing was reported stolen, and the incident is still under investigation.

Ammunition Found in Local Man's Attic

June 12, 7:40 a.m. - A Pond Plain Road resident reported to police that he found four boxes of 12-gauge shotgun ammunition in the attic of his home while cleaning. Police responded to the scene, took the ammunition into possession and labeled it to be destroyed.

Patient Causes Water Damage at Westwood Lodge

June 14, 11:50 a.m. - A juvenile patient at Westwood Lodge caused damage to the interior of the room he was occupying, according to reports. The patient ripped down a sprinkler head in the room, causing water damage to the facility, police said.

By the time police arrived, the water had been cleaned and repairs had been made. Police suspected that the incident occurred near the date of the patient's admittance into Westwood Lodge, which was on Friday, June 11 at 3:05 p.m.

Suspicious Blue Van Near Willard Circle

June 14, 4:42 p.m. - A Willard Circle resident reported that her son had been on a walk through the neighborhood when he observed a blue van parked on the street. The driver of the van and the resident's son engaged in a strong verbal discussion before the driver left the area. The driver of the van is described as having white hair and a white goatee. The matter is still under police investigation.

Stop Sign Damaged at Pond Street Intersection

June 17, 6:56 a.m. - Police responded to a call of damaged property at the intersection of Pond Street and Norfolk Avenue, where a caller said a stop sign had been knocked down. An officer responded and determined that the damage had been caused by a vehicle, investigated the matter and later cited an 18-year-old male for leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage.
