After hearing a broadcast from the Norwood Police Department, Westwood Police arrested a man from Hyde Park last week for possessing a dangerous weapon.

The Norwood Police broadcast stated that officers were on the lookout for a 1996 Red Toyota Corolla, the driver of which they suspected had been involved in slashing several tires in the Norwood area, according to police reports.

Westwood Police spotted the vehicle around 10:33 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27 and subsequently pulled the car over on Washington Street. After investigation, Westwood officers discovered the driver had in his possession a switchblade knife.

As a result, police arrested Matthew Borek, 34, of 70 Sierra Road in Hyde Park, for possession of a dangerous weapon. Police also recovered a black-handled machete in Borek's vehicle, but he was not charged for possessing it, as the knife is not considered an illegal weapon.

Borek was later released on $200 bail out of Dedham District Court, and Norwood Police have summonsed him on the tire damage he cause din the town.
