A motor vehicle accident has prompted officials to close a portion of the road.

Westwood police and fire officials responded to the scene of a serious accident on Washington Street shortly before 9 p.m. Monday after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting that someone had been hit by the car on the road.

The incident occured nearly 400 Washington St., where a 26-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle while in the southbound lane of the road. The woman was transported by ambulance to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. Officials closed off Washington Street from East Street to Clapboardtree Street as a result of the accident Monday.
