How to Keep Your Home Safe in Westwood Through the Holidays

The Westwood Police Department provides tips on how to keep your home safe during the holiday season.

What's that? You say you're traveling for Thanksgiving or through the holidays and want to ensure your home is safe while you're gone? 

No problem. By checking in with the and following a few simple steps, home security is right around the corner. 

Residents who plan on traveling through the holidays can add some security to their homes by completing a "Home Vacancy" form, which is available at the Westwood Police Department, or online at WestwoodPD.org by following the Forms, Permits and Application section.

"This form has some information relative to emergency notification and protocol associated with leaving your home unattended," said Westwood Police Detective Paul Toland.

He added, "Stopping newspaper deliveries and postponing package deliveries until the return of the resident from vacation may act as an appropriate deterrent."

Moreover, Toland recommended that traveling residents also ask a trusted friend or family member to check on the home during their absence to ensure security.
