Week in Review: August 9 - 15

This past week, businesses prepared for the tax-free weekend, Thurston Middle School renovations were postponed and the Planning Board approved the construction of a garage at a local business.

With the tax-free holiday this weekend about to come to a close, find out how local businesses in the Westwood are prepared for the event with sales and extra open hours.

Westwood Patch spoke to Matt Sims this past week, a local resident and counselor at Hale Reservation, who is trying to raise funds for a colleague's educational program in Ethiopia.

Children and their parents took to the sandy shores of Hale Reservation's Membership Beach on Wednesday to engage in a kid's triathlon. Hale also received a hefty donation from Dedham Savings, which will be used to advance the reservation's aquatics program.

The Westwood Planning Board approved the application for construction of a garage at Prevett Oil on East Street, which will be used for the storage and maintenance for several of the company's vehicles, as well as to store materials and office supplies.

Meanwhile, renovations to the roadway at Thurston Middle School, which were planned to be completed this month, have been postponed until next summer.
