The Week in Review: August 23 - 29

The week started off wet and soggy in Westwood, which was a welcome change, especially since the heat and dryness of July. But the rain gave way to sunshine and warmth toward the latter part of the week, and temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s into this week. 

Congressman Stephen Lynch visited the Westwood Board of Selectmen Monday night at the board's regularly scheduled meeting. There, Lynch explained that in order to continue to receive funding from the federal government to complete such large-scale projects as Westwood Station and the I-93/95 interchange project, Massachusetts must match the funding in order to show its commitment. 

Westwood, however, will be , according to the town's finance director, Pam Dukeman. 

Meanwhile, the Board of Selectmen also made an announcement that preparations for the New Westwood Public Library project will begin Monday, with the clearing of trees and shrubs in the area behind the Colburn School.

Westwood Public Schools were also among a number of state-wide school systems competing in a program organized by Kohl's Cares to win $500,000.

Fall sports also kicked off this week, with practices beginning at both Westwood High School and Xaverian Brothers High School. Westwood High School's football team began training for the season, and a number of other teams also began practices during the week.
