Next Round of Library Road Work Postponed to September

The delay is due to connection issues under ground.

The second portion of road work on High Street related to the project has been delayed to take place in early September, Library Director Tom Viti said Tuesday.

While the road work was originally expected to resume late this month, it is now expected to take place after the start of school, which lands on Sept. 6.

"We have to do our homework, and we only want to do it once," Viti said.

The cause for the delay is due to a connection issue with wiring and systems underground.

"The reason was it's not that easy to take different utility connections underground and then bring them into the street and then match them up exactly where they would go," Viti said.

Another cause for the delay, Viti said, is due to the poor condition of some existing lines under the road, which have to be addressed.

The road work is to come in three phases, the first of which .

Last week, the Westwood Planning Board to the library project's Environmental Impact Design Review (EIDR) plans regarding drainage designs.

The revisions included adding a stormceptor to the parking area behind the future site of the Colburn School, as well as substituting a 15-inch drain line with a new 12-inch drain line running from the parking lot to the drainage system along High Street.

Site crews, meanwhile, have completed pouring the concrete slab on the second floor, a job they finished last Thursday. The pouring of the first-floor slab is expected to take place on Friday this week.
