High Street Road Work to Continute Through 2012

The work is part of a MassDOT project.

Residents passing in and out of Westwood on High Street/Rte. 109 may have noticed some increasing road work near the Rte. 128/I-95 on ramps as of late.

The work is part of the Massachusetts Highway Department's Add-a-Lane project, and entails replacing the bridge on the overpass between Westwood and Dedham.

"There's been daily lane closures to support roadway widening adjacent to Rte. 109," said Mike Verseckes, a spokesperson for state Department of Transportation. "The bridges are scheduled for replacement in 2012."

Currently, Rte. 109 eastbound, heading into Dedham, has been narrowed to one lane while the road work ensues. Both Rte. 128 on and off ramps heading northbound and southbound are both accessible.

The work, Verseckes, is expected to continue into 2012, when the bridge is estimated to be completed.

He was not certain if there would be any disruption to the on/off ramps to the highway, but said it is expected that the road work would move over to the opposite side of Rte. 109 heading into Westwood.

According to the MassDOT's website, the initial construction estimate comes to about $25,448,696.

The widening of the road will include a 12-foot travel lane and 10-foot shoulder toward the median to extend between the MBTA Franklin Line Commuter Rail bridge, which lies south of the Rte. 1 bridge structures, as well as to extend to the roadway between the bridge structures on Rte. 1A/Washington Street and Rte. 109/High Street, according to MassDOT.
