Three Things to do in Westwood This Weekend

Spots near the center of town offer simple, yet productive things to occupy residents.

With July 4th weekend now behind us, some residents might be looking for things to do without leaving town. Here are three options:

Hit the Gym – Westwood Fitness, located at Westwood High School, is an affordable alternative to the bigger gyms outside of town. The gym features state-of-the-art equipment, including 10 individual strength machines, several cable machines, and a large free weight area. Treadmills, stationary bikes and elliptical machines are also available.

Membership fees are $20 per month for a single membership, and $35 for a family membership. Residents who are interested can also sign up for a three-month membership at 10 percent off for $54 (single) or $95 (family). There are no upfront costs or early termination fees. The gym is closed Sundays, but is open from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 781-461-0070 or stop by.

Take a Dip – The Westwood Pool, also located at the high school, has various lap swim and open swim hours throughout the weekend at a daily rate of $5. Lap swim hours on Saturday run from 6:30 to 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with open swim running from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Lap swim on Sunday runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and open swim is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Head down to take a dip or to get a few laps in to cool off from the heat.

Cool Off with a Book – While hours for the Westwood Public Library have been reduced during the summer months, the main branch on High Street is still open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (the Islington Branch is closed on the weekends through August). If you feel like getting out of the heat for a few hours, step inside for some fresh air-conditioning, grab a book or check out the bulletin board to see what's going on in town during the next few weeks.
