Here are some things in Westwood today, September 26, 2012.

1. Today is Yom Kippur. There is no school in Westwood. 2. This Saturday there will be a can and bottle drive at Westwood High School to benefit the Class of 2013 All Night Graduation Party. 3. Observe Yom Kippur 2012

Find out where and how to observe the Jewish holiday in your community.

Yom Kippur is, in short, the holiest day of the year in Jewish religion and culture. It is also referred to as the “Day of Atonement,” and the tradition is to solemnly fast for repentance and atonement of sins. Yom Kippur marks the end of the annual High Holy Day period (Sept. 16 to Sept. 26 in 2012), which begins with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Today, Sept. 25, observation will begin at sunset. Yom Kippur falls annually on the 10th day of Tishrei, a month on the Hebrew calendar, which is nine days after the first day of Rosh Hashanah. At Temple Beth David in Westwood, Kol Nidrei services will be at 8 p.m. today, Sept. 25. On Wednesday, Sept. 26, the early services will be at 8:30 a.m. and the late services will be at 11:30 a.m. …

Here are some things to know about in Westwood on September 25, 2012.
