Police Log: Car Vs. 18-Wheeler Crash, Flooded Basement

The Westwood Police Department provided the following information.

Sunday, Feb. 10 6:22 a.m.: Officers responded to a crash on NStar Way. The tractor trailer involved knocked the rear-view mirror of another vehicle. 2:35 p.m.: The Westwood Fire Department responded to Clapboardtree Street to assist a resident with a flooded basement. 5:34 p.m.: A resident of Salisbury Drive reported that their carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. No readings were found in the house. 11:51 p.m.: A caller reported a dog barking on Pond Street. The dog had been taken inside when officers responded.

Police Log: Man Requests Police Transport, Gets Arrested on Warrant

The Westwood Police Department provided the following information.

Friday, Feb. 8 12:04 p.m.: The Westwood Fire Department responded to a house on Oak Street where a carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. No readings found, but the house was ventilated as a precaution. Saturday, Feb. 9 11:57 a.m.: A caller reported two males hitchhiking on High Street. The men were able to get a ride before officers responded 12:24 p.m.: Officers responded to a snow blower on fire on Crystal Hill Terrace. The fire was extinguished prior to arrival, but the fire department wet the machine down as a precaution. 4:04 p.m.: A person went in to the Westwood Police Department looking for ride. While in the station an officer ran the man’s name and discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest out of Dedahm District Court. …

Police Log: Tools Stolen During Commercial Break-In

The Westwood Police Department provided the following information.

Wednesday, Feb. 6 2:29 a.m.: Officers responded to a break-in on University Avenue. When officers arrived they discovered the front door to the Milwaukee Electric Tool Company had been smashed. Ten to 15 tools were stolen. The Westwood Police Department is currently reviewing security footage and is actively investigating the break-in. 1:15 p.m.: A resident went in to the police station to report that she lost a quarter sized earring with pink stones on Oak Street. Thursday, Feb. 7 12:56 a.m.: A caller reported a suspicious person shining a flashlight at cars on University Avenue. The suspicious person was a police officer who was checking parked cars. 9:18 a.m.: Police are seeking a summons to charge a 59 year old male from Roxbury with …

Police Log: Three Crashes at Rotary, Stove Fire

The Westwood Police Department provided the following information.

Monday, Feb. 4 8:30 a.m.:  Officers responded to a three-car crash at the East Street rotary. One vehicle rear-ended another. No injuries were reported and neither car was towed. 9:29 a.m.: A resident of Gay Street reported that their handicap placard was missing. 1:15 p.m.: One vehicle rear-ended another at the East Street Rotary. No injuries were reported. 3:22 p.m.: Police are seeking a summons to charge a 19-year-old from Norwood with operating with a suspended license and failure to yield after he was involved in a crash at the East Street. 5:34 p.m.: Police are seeking a summons to charge a 22 year old from Norwood for operating with suspended license and no inspection after he was stopped on Washington Street. 5:46 p.m.: A resident …

Sunday, Feb. 26 Potential Home Break In (7:11 p.m.) - A High Street resident reported to police that someone had tried to gain entry into their home during a recent absence. Upon investigation, police found a small window pane had been broken on the interior door, but determined that no entry into the home had been gained.  Saturday, Feb. 25 Littleton Man Arrested (3:54 p.m.) - Police arrested a Littleton man on Providence Highway after responding to a disturbance at the Mercedes Benz dealership on Rte. 1. Management at the dealership called police in regards to an unruly customer who claimed he was an Air Force Pilot and had relations to Area 51, according to Police. Police arrested the man, a 23-year-old man from Littleton, on a warrant …

Westwood Man Arrested After Hitting Car on Oak Street Jan. 11, 7:18 p.m. - A Westwood man was arrested last week after he hit a car on Oak Street while driving drunk. A Pond Street resident was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The resident was arrested after he struck a 2007 Mitsubishi with his 2006 Ford on Oak Street. The Mitsubishi had been backing into a driveway at the time of the accident. The Ford was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported. South Boston Man Arrested for OUI Jan. 14, 11:34 p.m. - A South Boston resident was arrested after running a red light on Washington Street and hitting a 2012 Mercedes while driving drunk. Police Log: Break-in at Islington Community Center, Damage Resident's Basement Window

Islington Community Center B&E  Nov. 28, 6 a.m. - Westwood Police received a report that someone had broken into the Islington Community Center during the overnight hours and took a desktop computer from the building, as well as some juice boxes. The suspect, police said, also vandalized part of the property, having discharged a fire extinguisher and damaged door knobs.  The matter is under investigation.  Basement Windows at Home Damaged Nov. 28, 12:17 p.m. - Police received a report that the basement windows of a home on Schaefer Avenue had been damaged at some point during the previous week.  Specifically, two adjacent window panes had been kicked in from the outside of the home, police said. Storm Damage Causes Wires to Ignite on Thatcher Street

Fire officials were on scene Sunday afternoon to control the wires, and closed down a large portion of the road.

As the Westwood Police and Fire Departments scoured the streets on Sunday assessing damages left from Saturday's early winter storm, safety officials responded to Thatcher Street on Sunday to deal with a fire caused by downed wires.  Two live wires sparked a small blaze in front of 122 Thatcher Street around 1:30 p.m. Sunday; the fire was located on the exterior of an electric meter at the residence.  Fire and Police crews, as well as an NSTAR official, closed down a large chunk of Thatcher Street to control the live wires, which caused a large plume of smoke as they sat on the ground.  A resident of the home helped control the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher, according to Westwood Fire Captain Steven Lund.  No immediate structural …

Westwood Police Arrest Two for Driving Drunk

Westwood Police arrested a Westwood man and a Lexington man last weekend for driving while intoxicated.   On Saturday, Oct. 8 at around 6:52 p.m., police arrested Grant Anderson, 32, of 5205 Highland Glen Rd. in Westwood, after receiving reports that a small car was driving erratically.  Upon arrival to Highland Glen Road, police located Anderson's vehicle up against the curb, blocking one lane of travel.  Anderson was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.  On Sunday, Oct. 9, at around 10:30 p.m., police arrested Kenneth Han, 54, of 8 Allen Street in Lexington, after they spotted a Honda sedan traveling in the …

Westwood Police Log: One Injured in Three-Car Crash

The driver of a 2003 Ford Taxi was taken to Norwood Hospital with minor injuries last week after he was involved in a three-car accident near Dunkin Donuts on Washington Street. The accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Sept. 22, when a a 2006 Nissan, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Randolph, exited the Dunkin Donuts parking lot, attempting to turn south on Washington Street, when she struck the taxi, which was also traveling south on the road. The taxi then went over onto the sidewalk, eventually becoming impaled on a wooden guard rail. Meanwhile, a 2001 Mitsubishi, driven by a 23-year-old Dedham man who was also driving south, drove up on a curb and into a handful of trees while trying to avoid the accident.
