The town will be conducting a nationwide search for a new full-time police chief.
With Police Chief William G. Chase officially retired as of Feb. 4, Jeffrey Roy has stepped in as interim police chief for the town. Chase, who was chief for 10 years in Westwood, is now the chief of police at Fisher College in Boston. The town will be undergoing a nationwide search, the Globe reported when Chase announced his retirement. Roy, the former police chief in Orleans, was appointed to serve as interim chief over the department, which consists of 28 sworn officers and 10 civilian employees.

Saturday, December 1 Party (9:36 p.m.) - An anonymous caller reported that there may be underage drinking at a house on Fox Hill St. Sunday, December 2 Noise (8:13 p.m.) - A Nahatan St. resident called to complain that there was a lot of niose over at the high school. An officer checked to see what was going on, and there was a game being played that wasn't over yet.

Friday, November 30 Noise Complaint (6:22 a.m.) A Clapboardtree St. resident called to complain about a garbage truck picking up an area dumpster at around 5:45 a.m. Theft (1:38 p.m.) - The Ski and Sport Shop on Providence Hwy. reported a stolen North Face jacket. They were able to provide a description of the suspect as well as as license plate number of the vehicle the person drove away in. Beer & Bong (4:25 p.m.) - A Westwood Middle School teacher found empty beer cans and a bong in the woods.

Wednesday, November 28 Stolen Lottery Tickets (5:34 p.m.) - The attendant at the Shell gas station on Providence Hwy. reported that someone may have taken Powerball tickets when another customer had placed them on the counter while counting change. The surveillance video is being reviewed by police. Thursday, November 29 Motor Vehicle Stop (1:27 a.m.) - An officer stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Providence Hwy. and Carroll Ave. and issued a summons to the driver for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration and not having a physical license. Tuesday, November 27 Parked Truck (2:37 a.m.) - A parked truck had a light on inside in a parking lot on School St. An officer checked it out and it was cleared. Stolen Package (1:44 p.m.) - A High St. resident called to report a stolen package from the mailbox. The reporting party saw a package in the mailbox that is located on the street the night before, but figured they would just get it the nexxt day. The package was not there in the morning, though. Wednesday, November 28 Motor Vehicle Stop (8:11 a.m.) - During a routine traffic stop on Providence Hwy. police issued a summons to the operator of a motor vehicle for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

His name is Sean Pillai, and he’s been with the department for 2.5 weeks now after going through the Civil Service Exam process and completing the Lowell Police Academy. “It’s different learning in a classroom than riding with someone who’s been doing it for 25 years,” Pillai said of his first two weeks on the job. “I thought it wasn’t going to be as busy, but it’s been really busy.” In order to become a police officer, Pillai had to undergo a number of background checks and assessments, including criminal background, financial background, psychological testing, a medical assessment and a physical assessment test. Monday, November 26 I Called a Worker? (7:47 a.m.) - A Cardinal Dr. resident called the police to report that someone was banging on the door. An officer was dispatched and when he arrived he found that the knocker was pest control, who was there to do a job. Arrest (5:14 p.m.) - Police arrested Robert Dion, 55, of Westwood on a probation warrant out of Stoughton District Court. Obstacle Course (9:35 p.m.) - A caller from the area of Blue Hill Dr. and Canton St. reported that someone had set up an obstacle course out of construction materials and barrels.
