Vendors welcomed a hefty crowd of veteran farmers market shoppers on Tuesday.

For fans of locally-grown produce, it was a day to remember.  Set on the backdrop of the Westwood Senior Center lawn, the Westwood Farmers Market finally arrived on Tuesday, much to the delight of shoppers who have been waiting for a market they could call their own.  "I'm so delighted they've moved [here]," said Westwood resident Linda Milano, who used to frequent the Norwood Farmers Market. Five of the six vendors at the market all moved to Westwood's lot from the Norwood Farmers Market, save for a new addition: Copicut Farms, which offered eggs and chickens to customers on Tuesday.  Other vendors included: (Check back with Westwood Patch throughout the summer for a frequent profile on each of the vendors.) Reminder: New Westwood Farmers Market Opens Today

The market will be held in the Westwood Senior Center parking lot from 1-6 p.m.

It's a big day for residents who enjoy shopping locally. Beginning at 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the Westwood Senior Center, a variety of vendors will set up shop for the first ever Westwood Farmers Market.  Customers will be able to shop until 6 p.m. every Tuesday between today, June 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 30, rain or shine. The market will comprise at least five vendors, all of whom were among those offering goods at the Norwood Farmers Market in 2011: But local shoppers aren't the only ones who will have the opportunity to enjoy the market. Low-income seniors in Westwood who have qualified in the past for a discount on items at the Norwood Farmers Market will be able to do the like in Westwood, according to Westwood Council on Aging …

Save the Date: Westwood Farmers Market to Open June 19

The market will run through late October and be open each week, rain or shine.

Mark your calendars, local shoppers. Officials have confirmed the start date for the new Westwood Farmers Market to be on Tuesday, June 19. "It's the first time we're doing it," said Westwood Economic Development Officer Chris McKeown. "It's a nice amenity to the town. I think by and large people are looking forward to it." The market will be held in the parking lot of the Westwood Senior Center/Council on Aging on Tuesdays through Oct. 30, and will be open from 1 to 6 p.m., rain or shine.  "I think it's a fantastic idea," said Shirley Robbins, who is coordinating the market, which was previously located in Norwood. New Westwood Famers Market to Open in June

The market is set to run on Tuesdays until September or October.

Westwood residents who are eager to have a farmers market closer to home are in for a treat this summer. Town officials held discussions this week in regards to the new Westwood Farmers Market which is set to open in just a few months at the Westwood Senior Center parking lot. "We had a quick meeting this week to review where we were, what we needed to do, and talk abot the location and how we're thinking this can be set up," said Town Administrator Mike Jaillet. "We had a discussion about the logistics for their expected opening in June." While he didn't have a specific date available, Jaillet said the market is set to open by mid-June, and will be held on Tuesdays from about 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. or so through September or October.
