Westwood Week in Review: A Motorcycle Accident, East Street Bridge Being Looked Into and Readers Choose

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

A Stoughton man was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by medical helicopter after crashing his motorcycle on Route 95/Route 128 at Route 1 in Westwood on Monday. His injuries were later determined to be non life-threatening. A study was released stating that Westwood residents are more generous when it comes to charitable donations than most people who live in Norfolk County. For quite some time many residents have expressed concern about the safety of the East Street Bridge, where there have been a number of motor vehicle accidents over the years. Week in Review: A Cycling Accident, Historic Hale and an Editor's Note

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

It was a close call for one cyclist, whose injuries were determined to be non-life threatening following a crash on High Street early in the week. Mosquitoes continued to be a threat to the region this week, and, as such, Westwood health officials issued a new alert regarding EEE and West Nile Virus. Westwood Economic Development Office Chris McKeown prepared to take part in his 28th Pan-Massachusetts Challenge this weekend alongside a large number of other Westwood riders. This week, we took a look into the past over at Hale Reservation, specifically, Hale's Cat Rock Pasture. Week in Review: Westwood Day Nears, EEE Creeps In and a New Cafe Emerges

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) re-entered the spotlight this past week, as a pool of mosquitoes with the virus was found in Canton.  With the recent discovery of EEE nearby, we asked readers how they felt about the matter, and if they were concerned. On a lighter note, plans are coming together for the formation of Westwood Day, which takes place on Saturday, Sept. 22. The owner of what will soon be known as Bi Bi's Cafe, to take the place of current establishment Anne's Lunch, spoke about what the new restaurant will offer residents once it's up and running. Westwood's mens lacrosse team, Aged Wood, sustained a tough loss this past week to a team known as Atlantic Sportswear. A group of residents from Westwood and Dedham are preparing …

Week in Review: Fireman's Foam Returns, a New Traffic Island and Evening Jazz

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

It was a week of summer fun in Westwood. Things began with some cool, swing-band era jazz on Monday night at the Westwood Senior Center, where the Westwood Swing Band took to the stage (i.e., gazebo) and swooned a large crowd of families.  The annual favorite known as Fireman's Foam also returned this week, as children played in the Westwood Fire Department-created cloud of foam at the Sheehan Elementary athletic field. On the municipal end of things, the Westwood Planning Board on Tuesday met with University Station developers to discuss ongoing plans and how to approach zoning with the newly-revived project The Westwood Board of Selectmen this week approved for the installation of a permanent traffic island at the intersection of Farm …

Week in Review: New Library Completion on the Horizon, Space Opens After Cold Stone Closure

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

The new Westwood Public Library project has reached its 75-percent completion mark, library officials announced in an update on the project this week.  Westwood firefighters this week investigated smoke at the Public Storage Building on East Street. Residents in town who are avid recyclers can now record their recycling activity in an effort to bring in $100,000 into Westwood. A Westwood native is getting ready to take part in the upcoming annual "Swim Across America" event. Cold Stone, one of Westwood's two go-to spots for ice cream, recently closed after its lease ran up. As such, the space is now open, and we're wondering -  what do you think should fill the space? Week in Rewind: The Infamous East Street Bridge, a Bear's Journey and Athletes Excel

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

Sightings of black beards were reported in several towns early in the week, including in Westwood, and one bear was eventually captured safely by officials in Brookline. That bear was later identified as the same bear that recently roamed around Cape Cod. One of the more pressing matters for residents as of late has been the number of accidents at the East Street Bridge. Residents attended the Westwood Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Committee's monthly meeting this week to voice their concerns about the safety of the area.  It was a week filled with athletic accolades in Westwood, as Westwood High School's recent graduate and former Wolverine Laura McHoul was named "Miss Lacrosse" by ESPNBoston.com, and swimmer Irina Chiulli was named an …

Hit-and-Run Driver Caught, Farmers Market Opens and a New Cafe

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

It was a non-stop week for news in Westwood. Monday night ended with a 26-year-old local resident being struck by a driver on Washington Street. The driver fled the scene, prompting a police investigation; Westwood Police released surveillance footage of the vehicleinvolved in the hit-and-run and eventually arrested the driver, a Wrentham man, who was arraigned Thursday in Dedham District Court.  Tuesday saw the grand opening of the Westwood Farmers Market, which ran from 1-6 p.m. at the Westwood Senior Center. Westwood was also one of several communities in the Commonwealth this week to endure the first heat wave of 2012. The owner of Anne's Lunch on High Street is working to build a new cafe and bakery in the spot of the old building. …

Wolverines Reign Supreme, University Station Plans Unveiled and Fifth Graders Move Up

A look back at the week in Westwood news.

It was a strong end to the 2012 season for the Westwood High School girls lacrosse team, which once again took home the state title on Friday, this time against rivals Algonquin.  Also of note this week in Westwood was the unveiling of an initial proposal for the new University Station project. Developers met with the Westwood Planning Board on Tuesday to present their plans. And as students began wrapping up the 2011-2012 school year, fifth graders at the Deerfield School celebrated moving up to the next step. Administrators, meanwhile, have appointed two new important directors to their staff for the upcoming school year. University Station Plans, a New Traffic Island and Talking Trash

A look back at what took place and what was discussed in town this past week.

It was announced this week that the developers of the newly-revamped University Station project (formerly known as Westwood Station) will meet with the Westwood Planning Board this coming Tuesday to discuss an intial proposal for what's to come for the project.  The Westwood Department of Public Works, meanwhile, is preparing to intialize a 30-day trial for a traffic island in the area of Farm Lane in an effort to reduce potential safety threats due to vehicular accidents. A handful of residents were able to take an early look at what's to come this fall for the town's new automated trash and recycling collection program, now that Westwood has entered into a new five-year contract with Waste Management. Week in Review: An MBTA Crash and Contract, Lacrosse and a Preview of Memorial Day

A look back at last week's news out of Westwood.

  The MBTA was in the news a lot this week in Westwood. First, on Tuesday, more information came out about last Saturday's East Street Bridge Bus accident. The other big story concerned the T. A story that surfaced Thursday has the MBTA looking to a fill a $3M contract for a private company to run its rail services. On Wednesday, information from the police log told us about a fight at the Westwood Lodge Hospital of all places. The following day, another bad bit of news, as the Westwood Boy's Varsity Lacrosse team lost its regular season finale. However, there was focus on the positive from Westwood sports. The Girl's Varsity Lacrosse team is setting its sights on Norwood in the first round of the South Tournament to take place Tuesday, …
