The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has issued a traffic advisory for this weekend for people driving on I-95 North in the vicinity of Westwood. Beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 13 and continuing through 12 noon on Sunday, October 14, there will be multiple lane closures on the section of I-95 North in the vicinity of East Street (Exit 14) in Westwood to allow work crews to complete roadway reconstruction and paving operations. Officials are weighing a $2.4 million bond for road and traffic improvements, and are looking at how widening Rte. 109 would affect traffic.
While Westwood officials will be discussing such matters as wireless districts and road signs among this year's town warrant articles, also being considered are ways to improve the town's roads. Currently listed as Warrant Article 4, the Westwood Board of Selectmen discussed the possibility of taking on a $2.4 million bond within Proposition 2 1/2 for road improvement work in town. The Board discussed the matter with Finance Director Pam Dukeman Monday night, and Selectmen Chair Pat Ahearn elaborated on the article to the Finance Commission later at the FinCom's public hearing. The second portion of road work on High Street related to the New Westwood Public Library project has been delayed to take place in early September, Library Director Tom Viti said Tuesday. While the road work was originally expected to resume late this month, it is now expected to take place after the start of school, which lands on Sept. 6. "We have to do our homework, and we only want to do it once," Viti said. The cause for the delay is due to a connection issue with wiring and systems underground. "The reason was it's not that easy to take different utility connections underground and then bring them into the street and then match them up exactly where they would go," Viti said. We used to live on Route 138 in Milton. It was a cut through to everywhere and had no sidewalks at all. We contacted the Conservation Law Foundation and they provided a lot of information about traffic calming methods.
