I-93/I-95 Traffic Pattern Changes Commence November 27

On November 27, the Randolph to Westwood I-93/I-95 (Route 128) construction to widen the road will begin to come to a close as the new lane will begin opening.

The following information was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation: Beginning at 5:00 AM on Tuesday, November 27th, construction crews will begin to open the remaining portions of the newly constructed fourth travel lane on the section of interstate roadway between Randolph and Westwood. The project limits begin in Randolph on I-93 at the interchange with Route 24 (Exit 4). From there, the project extends west toward Canton Junction, where I-93 ends, and the roadway becomes I-95 (Route 128). Lastly, the project continues along I-95 (Route 128) to Route 109 (Exit 16) in Westwood. Free Coffee! Free Tolls! And More Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Here are some tips from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to make your Thanksgiving travel a little easier.

  Will you be driving on Thanksgiving night? If so, you can snag a free cup of joe courtesy of the state. And if you're hitting the Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon, you can also get on I-90 (for one hour) without having to pay the toll. Free coffee will be served at all 18 Massachusetts Department of Tranportation (MassDOT) service plazas between 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night until 5 a.m. on Friday, Nov 23, courtesy of McDonalds, Burger King and Gulf. Meanwhile, Plymouth Rock Assurance will sponsor free tolls at the Allston-Brighton interchange on I-90 from 3-4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21.  Thanksgiving holiday traffic is expected to be at its peak on Tuesday, Nov. 20, Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Sunday, Nov. 25, according to MassDOT. MassDOT Opens Fourth Travel Lane on Rte. I-93, I-95

The "Add-a-Lane" project received a bit of an update Wednesday, as drivers were able to begin use of the new lane, according to reports.

Starting Wednesday, Nov. 14, drivers along Rte. I-93 and I-95 in the Canton area will begin to see the benefits from the longstanding Massachusetts Department of Transportation's "Add-a-Lane" project. Construction crews began opening portions of a fourth travel lane on the highway between Randolph and Westwood Wednesday morning, according to a report on WCVB.com Limits for the project begin on Rte. Construction Alert: I-95/Route 128 South Lane Closures This Weekend

Expect traffic as lanes will be closed on Saturday night at 7 p.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday.

  The following was submitted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation: Beginning at 7:00 PM on Saturday, November 3rd and continuing through 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 4th, there will be multiple lane closures on the section of I-95/Route 128 South in the vicinity of East Street (Exit 14) in Westwood to allow work crews to complete roadway reconstruction and paving operations.      Appropriate signs, channelizing devices and traffic control measures will be used to guide drivers through the work zone.   MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, to avoid delays.  Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect delays, particularly during the period on Sunday, November 4th between 6:00 AM and 12:00 …

MassDOT to Modify High Street Intersection

The changes, to be made at Lowder Brook Drive and High Street, will be incorporated with the Add-A-Lane project near the highway.

Some changes are coming to the intersection at High Street and Lowder Brook Drive.  A recently-discovered safety concern has prompted Westwood officials to look into addressing vehicles that make a U-turn at the traffic signal between the roads.   The problem lies with at the intersection lies primarily with drivers exiting Grove Street, which lies across Rte. 109/High Street from the yellow building that houses such businesses as the Dental Arts of Westwood, according to Westwood Department of Public Works Director Vicki Vickrey-Quiram. Vehicles leaving Grove Street, Quiram said, are forced to turn right on High Street, and then take a U-turn at the traffic signal by Lowder Brook Drive if they wish to travel in the opposite direction.  …

High Street Road Work to Continute Through 2012

The work is part of a MassDOT project.

Residents passing in and out of Westwood on High Street/Rte. 109 may have noticed some increasing road work near the Rte. 128/I-95 on ramps as of late. The work is part of the Massachusetts Highway Department's Add-a-Lane project, and entails replacing the bridge on the overpass between Westwood and Dedham. "There's been daily lane closures to support roadway widening adjacent to Rte. 109," said Mike Verseckes, a spokesperson for state Department of Transportation. "The bridges are scheduled for replacement in 2012." Currently, Rte. 109 eastbound, heading into Dedham, has been narrowed to one lane while the road work ensues.
