PHOTO: Wolverines Score 100 Points for 2012 Season

The achievement comes on the heals of a strong victory in the MIAA tournament on Sunday.

In addition to a 3-2 victory over Gardner/St Bernard's in the Div. 2 MIAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, Westwood High School's line of Ela Hazar, Kim Egizi and Kelly Healey went over the 100 point mark for the season, in an update from Head Coach Rick Chrusciel on Tuesday.

MIAA Run for Westwood Hockey Ends in Shootout [Video]

Westwood fell to Medfield Thursday, 2-1, in a shootout, ending the Wolverines' run in the playoffs.

Westwood's Mike Welby and Medfield's Toby Carlow both knew Thursday's first round game between their boys' hockey teams in the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional State Tournament would be close. Just not this close. Westwood ultimately fell to Medfield, 2-1, in the fifth round of a shootout, allowing the Warriors to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round against Scituate at 12:15 p.m. at Gallo Arena in Bourne. Thursday's first round thriller was all about the goaltenders as Westwood's Will Ribas and Medfield's Conor Roddy, a freshman, each stood on their heads – allowing just one goal apiece in 57 minutes of play. Strong Start for Boys Hockey in MIAA Tournament

The Wolverines take on Medfield this Thursday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Bourne.

It was a great start to the week for the Westwood High School boys ice hockey team.  The Wolverines kicked of their venture into the South Division 3 MIAA State Tournament on Tuesday with a 6-0 victory over Mashpee.  The boys head to Bourne on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. faceoff against Tri-Valley League rivals the Medfield Warriors. The successful win on Tuesday is noteworthy, as the team is currently in its 30th consecutive year of competing in the playoffs.

Westwood Hockey, Basketball Set for MIAA Tournament

The Wolverines are poised to take to the ice and court this week as part of the Division 2 and South Division 3 tournaments.

The Westwood High School boys’ and girls’ hockey teams are set to compete in this year's MIAA State Tournament, and recently found out where they will be seeded, as well as who their first round of opponents will be. The girls team earned the sixth seed in the MIAA Div. 2 State Tournament after finishing the regular season with a record of 14-5-1, according to MIAA Tournament brackets released this past weekend. The girls will take on Scituate on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Canton.  The boys team, meanwhile, earned the 17th seed in the MIAA South Division 3 Tournament after finishing the regular season with a record of 9-6-5. Another Year, Another MIAA Tournament for Boys Hockey

The boys hockey team has made the playoffs for the last 30 years.

The Westwood Wolverines boys ice hockey team has built up quite a legacy over the years.  The Wolverines qualified again this season for the MIAA tournament, a feat it has continued for the last three decades. Westwood’s 30 years of playoffs is the longest such streak in Massachusetts hockey, according to an ESPN Boston High School Report post Tuesday. In the last three decades, the team has racked up 19 Tri-Valley League championships and four state championships, according to the ESPN post.  Coming off the heals of a strong year in 2011, having clinched the Tri-Valley League title, the team went on to see seven of its players move on as league All-Stars last season. Moreover, Head Coach Mike Welby even was named TVL Coach of the Year. …

Girls Hockey Defeats Franklin, Falls to Falmouth

The girls are now 14-4-1 for the season; four were named to the SEMGHL All-Star team.

Westwood, playing undermanned, with at least seven varsity regulars out of the line up for the fourth straight game, finally ran out of gas on Monday, dropping a tough 4-0 decision to a tough Falmouth team. With Courtney Fay, Sinead Walsh, Christine Regan, Ela Hazar, Kristina Barounis, Hannah Orcutt, and Meghan Kelly all out of the lineup, Westwood still managed to outshoot the visitors 35 to 18, but could not find the back of the net. Thirteen Wins and Counting for Girls Hockey

The Wolverines improved to 13-3-1 for the 2012 season with Wednesday's win over Canton.

It was another exciting win on Wednesday for the Westwood Wolverines girls ice hockey team. Westwood's Olivia Fay tipped in a shot by Katie Horsfall with 43 seconds left to lead Westwood to a dramatic 5-3 win over Canton in a battle of two of Division II's best teams.   Westwood, playing with seven varsity regulars out of the line up due to injury or sickness (including Courtney Fay, Sinead Walsh, Christine Regan, Ela Hazar, Lulu Swartz, Hannah Orcutt and Gabby Giugliano) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Kim Egizi. Canton came right back and tied the game at 1-1. Meghan Kelly then put Westwood up 2-1 early in the second …

Girls Hockey Squad Beats Quincy, 7-0

The Wolverines advanced to 11-3-1 for the season with the win.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Westwood High School girls varsity ice hockey coach Rick Chrusciel. Westwood overpowered Quincy/North Quincy on Wednesday, 7-0, putting 45 shots on net and holding QNQ to only two. Kelly Healey opened the scoring for Westwood early in the first period, being sent in alone off passes from Ela Hazar and Kim Egizi. Hazar quickly made it 2-0 off a feed from Egizi. Olivia Fay then scored off a nice setup by Meghan Kelly to finish the first period at 3-0. Maddy McKeown then scored her first varsity goal to make it 4-0 early in the second period. Healey made it 5-0 off a setup by Hazar and Egizi to end the second period. Westwood Falls to Medfield, Defeats Latin Academy

Sunday's win puts the girls ice hockey squad at 10-3-1, and allowed the team to clinch a berth in the MIAA tournament.

It was an amped up weekend for the Westwood High School varsity girls ice hockey team. During Saturday’s battle against Medfield, Nicole Riordan scored midway through the second period and goalie Mimi Borkan stopped 42 shots to lead Medfield to a 1-0 win vs Westwood.  Westwood pounded Borkan all night but could not score, taking a tough loss. On Sunday, however, freshman Taylor Sweeney scored her first two varsity goals and goaltender Siobhan Burke stopped nine Latin Academy shots to lead Westwood to a 5-0 win and a berth in the MIAA tournament. Girls Hockey One Step Closer to Playoffs

A 5-4 victory over Scituate on Wednesday brings the Wolverines a step closer to the MIAA playoffs and puts the team at 9-2-1.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Westwood High School girls varsity ice hockey coach Rick Chrusciel. Kelly Healey scored on a 4-on-3 power play with less than five minutes left to lift Westwood to a 5-4 win against Scituate on Wednesday.  The Wolverines started quickly with first-period goals from Kim Egizi and Meghan Kelly, and dominated the period. Scituate (8-7) got one back early in the second period to make it 2-1. Healey scored off on a rebound of a shot by Katie Horsfall to put Westwood back up 3-1. Scituate then took control of the second period with three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead. Westwood came back with a strong third period. Kat Heidleberger tied the game at 4-4.
