Selectmen Recognize Girls Lax Team for Continued Success

The girls received specialzed tee shirts as a gift during Monday night's meeting.

As an added bonus to being crowned MIAA State Champions once again this year, the Westwood High School varsity girls lacrosse team received specialized tee shirts bearing names of all the players from the Westwood Board of Selectmen Monday night.  The board commended the group for their continued success over the years, following suit with a similar gesture last year, when the team was also crowned champions.  "It's really nice to keep doing this again and again," Selectmen Third Member Nancy Hyde said. "It's really a testament to you rising to the challenge put before you." Selectmen Clerk Pat Ahearn echoed the comments, and also commended the team's head coach, Leslie Frank, who was also present Monday night.  "You're the one continuum …

Life in the Mom Lane

Did Hockey Mom's Actions Cross the Line?

What are your thoughts on this Marlborough mom's actions? Let us know in the comments section below.

By now we have all seen the latest viral video to hit YouTube. The scene was hectic as a Marlborough hockey mom, upset that the referees weren’t responding to a fight quickly enough, walked out onto the ice, pocketbook and all, to take matters into her own hands.  It seems that hockey mom, Gina O’Toole, had seen enough and decided that if she didn’t step out onto the ice and set the referees straight, the situation would continue to get out of hand. As a matter of fact she even went so far so far as to “order” the referee off the ice. Needless to say he wasn’t impressed. In an interview with ABC News she explained, “What concerned me was the feeling of the blows to the back of the head and a child going down to the ice with maybe a …

Westwood Girls Lacrosse Defeats Needham for South Title, 12-9

With the win, Westwood heads to the Eastern Championship.

Over the past decade, the Westwood girls lacrosse team hasn’t gone into many games as the underdog. Last night, that was the case, as the third-seeded Wolverines headed to top-seeded Needham for the MIAA Division 1 South Final. But underdog status didn’t seem to slow them down, as the Wolverines pulled away from the Rockets late in the game for a 12-9 victory. “They’re so hungry for it,” Westwood coach Leslie Frank said about her players. “They’ve come so far [this year].” After the start of the game was delayed about 75 minutes due to rain, Westwood opened up strong on the attack. While Needham freshman Carly Colman did score the first goal of the game to give the Rockets an early lead about 4:30 into the game, the Wolverines had several …
