Joseph Selvaggi defeated Matt Temperley for the Republican spot on the ballot in November, both here in Westwood and overall in Massachusetts. 2. Hale Reservation will be hosting the 9th annual Hale Triathlon this Sunday. There are races for adults and youths. This event supports the campership fund. Hundreds of kids joined together for fun and games for the third straight year.
Hale Reservation held their third annual All Camp Carnival yesterday, with hundreds of campers taking part in the fun. Needham Bank sponsored the activities, helping make it possible for the campers to enjoy snow cones, receive prizes and try to sink their counselors in a dunk tank, among other things. Iris Tomlak, Needham Bank's Marketing Officer, and Westwood branch manager Rebecca Schofield, even stopped by to see how the festivities were going. As hip-hop music blasted throughout the day, the campers took part in facepainting, caricatures and various other events. This Saturday, Hale Reservation will be holding a special 5K trail race in the memory of Julia Brune, the former manager for Hale's Membership Beach who lost her battle with cancer in October 2011. The event will be part of Hale's ongoing 5K Series, but will specifically benefit Julia's Place at Membership Beach, according to Hale officials this week. "Unlike our other races, this one will start and end at Membership Beach," said Hale spokesperson Paula McLaughlin. While not a business in the traditional sense, Westwood's Hale Reservation offers quite a bit in terms of natural services to local residents. The reservation, which comprises 1,100 of woodlands in Westwood and Dover, offers free parking and, aside from numerous walking and hiking trails, holds facilities for birthday parties and other private events. Bathing and water activities are restricted to members for a modest annual fee for families or individuals. A handful of representatives from nearby EMS stores were on hand Saturday to provide attendees with kayak and other outdoor sporting demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge. The time of year has arrived when campers from nearly 70 different Boston-area communities descend upon the grounds of Hale Reservation. The West Roxbury YMCA camp was the first to make landfall last week, but come Monday, June 25, Hale welcomed back the groups of Hale Day Camp, the Waltham-Watertown Boys and Girls Club and the South Shore Stars. Soon to join the group will be Hale Outdoor Learning Adventures (HOLA) and Aspire, formerlly known as Youth Care.
