Another Tough Loss for Post 320

Foxboro defeats Westwood 2-1 on late inning miscue.

It feels like the summer is just beginning, but as July 4th trails behind, so begins the final leg of the American Legion Baseball season. For Westwood Post 320, this season had some growing pains, as the team heads into Friday’s finale against Franklin with a 5-11-1 record overall. Thursday, the team faced a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to tournament hopeful Foxborough (8-9), who will try to pull off a win against Medfield on Friday, coupled with a Canton loss that would punch their post-season ticket. Post 320 has not been as fortunate. Thursday evening’s game at Russell Downes Field in Westwood proved to be a microcosm of Post 320’s season, as a few mental errors gave Foxborough a chance to put two runs on the board and spoil a great pitching…

Westwood Post 320 Falls 5-1 to Foxboro

With Sunday's loss, Westwood now moves to 2-2 for the season.

Something looked different about Foxboro Post 93 against Westwood Post 320. Trying to bounce back from a bad loss against Norwood, Foxboro looked determined to come out of the game with a win. “That team had a little giddy-up in their step today,” said Foxboro coach Bill Travers. Getting great hits and backed by a solid pitching performance by Tom Savageau, Foxboro picked up a solid win against Westwood, 5-1 on Sunday. It was the type of game that was over early on. With two on and a 3-2 count, Nick Carafa singled to score Steve Nagle and give Foxboro a 1-0 lead. Steve Fizmaurice continued the rally with a single to drive in Tom Brady and make it a 2-0 game for Foxboro. Fitzmaurice himself would make it home after a passed ball gave him a …

"I like to see the high school underclassmen come in, develop and go on to play college ball," said Paster, who's coached the Westwood Legion team to 299 wins over his 22 years. "I like to see a guy come on and get a chance." Today, he has a shot to capture his 300th win, when his Post 320 squad (7-5) hosts Needham (4-7) at 5:45 p.m. at Westwood High School. It's been more than 40 years since the 64-year-old Paster got his big chance.
