Scout Leader, Food Pantry Director Offer Thanks for Food Drive Efforts

The Westwood Cub Scouts collected donate food items and brought them to the Westwood Food Pantry last Saturday.

Editor's Note: The following was submitted to Westwood Patch by Westwood Cub Scout Leader Al Fusco in response to , during which Westwood Packs 1 and 2 and Pack 1 Islington went door to door in town collecting food for the Westwood Food Pantry.

We had a very successful collection. Cub scouts were dropping off food bags throughout the day at the , where high school student volunteers and Westwood Food Pantry staff were involved in unloading the cars and sorting the food goods prior to delivery to the food pantry.

On behalf of the Westwood Cub Scouts and the Westwood Food Pantry, I would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s Scouting for Food drive.

Special thanks to all the cub scouts and their parents who visited homes during the past two Saturdays, delivering flyers and then returning for food pickup.

Many thanks to the staff at the Westwood Food Pantry for assembling a large staff of volunteers to receive the hundreds of food bags.

This year’s food drive was an overwhelming success and your generous donations will go a long way toward meeting the needs of families in our community.

Editor's Note: The following below was submitted by Westwood Food Pantry Director Trish Tucke in response to the food drive on Nov. 19, specifically the efforts by athletes, after the drive.

The sorting day was a huge success.

We accomplished so much in four hours; over the past three years it has taken many, many days to get it all done.

We had over 57 volunteers from various teams and clubs at Westwood High School.

Ms. Katie Ricard, Dean of Students, helped put out the word to get the kids involved. The kids were so helpful and eager to lend a hand.

We had several adult volunteers with us, as well as members of our Food Pantry committee. Mr. Steve White, custodian at the middle school, was so helpful in getting us set up and ready to go.

The guys from the Westwood Department of Public Works took three trucks full of bins and boxes over to the high school on Friday. Mr. Bill McHugh, one of our committee members, was the master at organizing the garage. We now have a good supply of food ready to fill empty shelves in the food pantry.
