The Favorites of Summer!

One mother muses on her family's favorite summer time activities, outside and in.

Yeah, Summer! My family and I look forward to it for months. One of our favorite places on a hot day is Hinkley Pond in Medfield. We join for $150 per family - quite a good deal! The pond is open mid-June to mid-August, every day.

It does not get too crowded, so it is easy to keep an eye on the kids and doesn't feel overwhelming. There is a rest room and snack bar, as well. Frankie was just reminding me of the "ice cream in between two cookies" that he had for the first time there last year. They offer swimming lessons for a nominal fee, as well.

Strawberry picking is also a favorite! We love Ward's Berry Farm, complete with hayride to strawberry patch, animals to feed and playground. The taste of the warm strawberries in the sun is unbeatable!  They are now open for the strawberry picking season!

One of our favorite amusements parks is Canobie Lake in New Hampshire. It is close by, shady and has a variety of family rides for different ages.

Southwick's Zoo is also a favorite. The best part being the deer forest where the deer wander and eat out of your hand!

Of course, playgrounds are a summertime staple as well! Besides Hinkley, our other favorites are; Caryl Park in Dover and Warren park in Wellesley.

There are a  few favorite indoor activities to beat a stormy day or an intensely hot day, too! We enjoy going to the library to check out books and participate in the summer reading program! We especially enjoy Tuesday night pajama storytime.

The library is a great resource for getting library passes to get into many area museums for free or reduced price.

Another fun indoor activity is bowling and kids can bowl free this summer (learn more here: www.kidsbowlfree.com - Ron's bowling in Hyde park participates in this program!).

So here's looking forward to summer, nice weather and a happy, healthy time!
