Role Models

A look at the importance of role models for children.

It is important for our children to have positive adult role models to look up to. Of course, they look up to us, their parents, relatives and teachers; but a few famous ones are good, too.

We had the chance to meet the figure skater, Kristi Yamaguchi, and she was so kind! What a beautiful person, inside and out. We first heard her read her new book, "It's a Big World, Little Pig". It was very cute and a positive message about meeting new people and making new friends.  She then spent a while answering questions from the audience.

Then we got to meet her and have her sign our books. She was so nice, talking with the kids and posing for a picture. My daughter, Elizabeth, was asking her for advice on intrumental music choices for her next skating program, she suggested Chopin. I told her, "When Kristi Yamaguchi recommends music for your program, you better skate to it!"

The people from the bookstore were tyring to hurry people through, so the event went quickly and smoothly, but Kristi was happy to just keep talking. I had a picture from when I had met her 20 years ago after the 1992 Olympics, so I gave her a copy and she was happy to see it.

From listening to her answering questions, she is so humble and caring. Through her "Always Dream" foundation, she helps children to fulfill their hopes and dreams! Thank you, Kristi!
