Happy 4th of July!

One Westwood resident reflects on a few memories of the Fourth of July. How will you spend the holiday?

Since the Fourth of July is upon us, I thought I would write about some fun 4th memories and activities. I asked a few family and friends what they like best about the holiday!

My cousin remembers cookouts at our Grandma's house and playing bocci ball! I also remember playing badminton there too.

A friend of mine said, "When I was little, we went to a block picnic at my aunt's house, and all of the kids brought their bikes. There was a pile of supplies behind one of the houses (streamers, crepe paper, flags, spoky dokies in red, white, and blue) and we all decorated our bikes and had a bike parade. Then we'd sit out on the front lawn eating watermelon while one of the neighbors shot off (illegal) fireworks before going to the big ones. Corny, but a big warm fuzzy."

I remember going to my other grandma's house too, and having a BBQ with my cousins. We would do sparklers at night, I always was thrilled by that. Now I wouldn't let my kids do them.

Now we usually go to the Cape for the 4th and watch the fireworks on the beach! My kids get as excited as when it is Christmas!
