Westwood Tops Stoughton High Field Hockey Team

Four first half goals propelled Westwood to a 6-2 win over the Stoughton High field hockey team Tuesday afternoon at home.

Led by sophomore Kasey Keane’s three goals and one assist, Westwood went on the road and handed the Stoughton High field hockey team a 6-2 loss Tuesday afternoon.

Westwood built an early lead, and Stoughton was unable to mount a comeback, falling to 0-6-2 on the season. Westwood, meanwhile, improves to 3-7-1.

“[Westwood was] more aggressive and out-muscled us for every ball,” Stoughton coach Dan Mark said. “We did just about everything wrong.”

Said Westwood coach Angela Wilson, “Today the field agreed with us. Being able to find the back of the net six times is something we haven’t been able to do this season.”

Stoughton fell behind 4-0 before scoring their first goal with 1:32 left before halftime. Senior Kayla Floro scored on an assist from junior Ilanna Schlehuber.

Keane scored twice in the first half for Westwood (with junior Bryn MacGillivray assisting both scores). Senior Julia Tucke and sophomore Jamison O’Neill added the other first half goals for the Wolverines.

“It’s just so hard to make up that many goals,” Mark said of facing the 4-0 deficit.

Stoughton came out with improved play in the second half, but Westwood was still able to add two more goals.

Keane scored to complete the hat trick, and less than nine minutes later, sophomore Caroline McLaughlin added Westwood’s final goal, giving the Wolverines a 6-1 lead with 13 minutes left.

Stoughton recorded the game’s final goal when Schlehuber scored with 8:10 left to play. Senior captain Mackenzie Hudson had the assist.

Wilson said she was impressed with Keane’s play on offense and senior Molly Powers’ performance on defense.

The Wolverines face a quick turnaround, hosting Dover-Sherborn Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
