Westwood Little League Loves A Parade: Rain or Shine, April 28

The annual little league kick off will begin at the Hanlon School and lead to Morrison Park.

The 2012 Little League spring season comes alive in Westwood on Saturday, April 28, as little leaguers and girls softball players kick-off opening day with the .

With red lights flashing and the horn sounding, the will lead a procession of over 700 excited boys and girls from to Morrison Park, the official “home” of Little League.

Teams and families will enjoy a host of activities and entertainment at the field. Our favorite green monster from Fenway makes a return appearance. The incredibly talented, singer-songwriter will lead the crowd in the singing of the National Anthem.

It’s a morning of champions, too, as the Little League community tips their caps the WHS State Championship Golf Team while their Coach, Matt Gillis, takes the mound to throw out the ceremonious first pitch.

Also at the parade, WLL will announce exciting new developments about the ongoing effort to . As outlined on the WLL website, through a collaborative effort between the town and WLL, Morrison Park will soon undergo enhancements benefitting the entire community. WLL will announce a major leadership gift from a generous local sponsor and provide an overview of the redevelopment plan and the league’s community fund-raising efforts.

Other highlights include free face painting, free snacks and balloon twisting with Silly Willy the Clown. Be sure to check out our guest tables which include the Pan Mass Challenge; selling new Pan Mass gear and Troop 3 Mother’s Day Plant Fundraiser. What mom doesn’t love flowers?

Athletic Republic, located in Norwood, offers a variety of training programs to keep your kids at the top of their game. The Westwood Day committee will be on hand sharing details about the upcoming September 22 celebration.  

Westwood Little League, with the support of local business, will offer a free raffle featuring several great prizes. All Little League and softball player names will automatically be entered into the drawing.  

Lastly, baseball and softball teams should arrive at the Hanlon School by 8:45 a.m., as the procession will leave promptly at 9.
