As another successful spring baseball season winds down, many little leaguers will pass on heading to the beach, but instead take the diamond to prep for five weeks of competitive summer ball.

To kick off the summer, Westwood Little League will host the 2012 Reilly Classic Tournament on Wednesday, June 20 through Sunday, June 24.

A long-standing tradition, the tournament allows newly formed teams to play in several games before the official start of the Suburban League season. Players have the opportunity to get to know new teammates, play as a team and hone their skills in certain positions.

Formerly known as the Westwood Kick-off Classic, the tournament name was changed years ago to honor the John and Rosella Reilly family. Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the Reilly family the Little League program has continued to thrive under the lights at Morrison Field. This year’s tournament competition includes select teams from Walpole, Canton, Medfield, and Westwood, ranging in age from 9-12.
