Hawks Tennis Pull 5-0 Victory Over Malden Catholic

The Hawks improved to 8-6 with the win and need two more wins to make the MIAA State Team Tournament.

The Xaverian boys tennis team pulled off a convincing 5-0 win over Malden Catholic in Catholic Conference battle at Xaverian on Thursday. 

The Hawks lead off the action with impressive wins from their top three singles players as senior Brandon Sepe (attending Cornell University in the fall), freshman Jamie Chisholm and sophomore Nate Cohen only gave up a handful of games collectively.

The first doubles team of junior Talis Reks and senior John Coville also played well in a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while the second doubles team of juniors Sean McCarthy and Colin Gilpatric had the highlight match winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).  

"My second doubles team is really starting to come together," Xaverian Head Coach Michael Mowatt said. "They are doing a great job of communicating and are playing enough together that they can anticipate each other's moves and their opponents. It was a great high school doubles match to watch."

The Hawks improved to 8-6 with the win and need two more wins to make the MIAA State Team Tournament. They next travel to Cape Cod Tech on Friday.   

Sepe, Chisholm and Cohen will also be representing the Hawks in the MIAA State Individuals Tournament held at Newton North High School this weekend.
