Glennon Shines as Westwood Wins Again

Post 320 improves to 7-4 with a victory over Franklin.

Westwood American Legion Post 320 recorded its second straight victory with a 4-1 win over visiting Franklin Wednesday night at Westwood High School to improve to 7-4 on the season.

Starting pitcher Matt Glennon, a rising sophomore at UMass-Boston, went the distance without allowing an earned run, scattering four hits over seven innings to earn the win.

"I wasn't throwing too hard, but I hit my spots and I felt like I was throwing well," said Glennon, a 2009 graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School.

Catcher Gerard Florentino, a 17-year-old rising senior at Xaverian, reached base four times to lead the Westwood offense, going 2-for-2 with a walk and hit by pitch.

"It was just a good day," said Florentino, who has now reached base seven times in his last two games. "I was just going out there like it was any other game and trying to produce for my team."

Westwood, which trails only Walpole (9-4) in District 6 West, scored one run in the first inning then tacked on some insurance runs in the fifth and sixth, providing more than enough support for Glennon, who allowed only two balls out of the infield in the game.

The win moved coach Dick Paster one win away from recording the 300th win of his 22-year American Legion coaching career.

Westwood hosts Medfield at 5:45 tonight at Xaverian Brothers High School with 16-year-old Matt La Vita, a rising junior at Xaverian, scheduled to get the start.

"It's just going to be another win. It doesn't mean anything to the team but it's a persona milestone to me," said Paster. "Although Medfield has struggled thus far we definitely can't take them lightly."
