Xaverian Appoints New Assist. Headmaster of Advancement

Westwood resident Larry Furey returns to the role, which he held from 1995 to 2004.

Officials at announced Monday that they will be welcoming back one of their own to the school's administration. 

Larry Furey, a Westwood resident, has been appointed as the school's new headmaster of advancement, a role he returns to after several years working in other fashions away from the school.

Furey served in the same role from 1995 to 2004, during which he engineered Xaverian's first capital campaign known as the $12.1 Legacy of Values campaign. As part of that program, the school received five gifts of more than of $1 million each.

Furey had also helped the school increase its annual giving program from $120,000 to more than $1.2 million in just eight years. 

"Since playing a key role and leading us to success in building our advancement program and achieving the goals of our Legacy of Values Campaign, Larry has compiled a stellar career of achievement as a fundraiser and strategic planner of major capital campaigns on scales larger than Xaverian has yet to undertake," Brother Daniel Skala, Xaverian Headmaster, said in a statement on Monday.

Added Daniel, "Larry is rejoining Xaverian at a critical and exciting time in the history of this institution. With the trustees' recent approval of a new strategic plan, Xaverian is poised to serve the young men of Boston in unprecedented ways, and I'm confident that Larry will once again be a strong leader for our advancement program."

Since leaving Xaverian nearly eight years ago, Furey founded Partners in Mission, a consulting firm located in Westwood that works at developing excellence in Catholic school advancement and leadership throughout the country. He also served as Vice President of Advancement at Catholic Charities. 

In a statement Monday, Furey said he's more than ready to return to the Westwood-based private school.

"Xaverian has demonstrated quite convincingly that we can adapt, survive and flourish in times of change," Furey said in a news statement on Monday. "We have great ambitions for our beloved school. I'm looking forward to my work with Brother Daniel, the school leadership and Board of Trustees in moving our ambitions forward."

Furey graduated St. Bonaventure University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). 

He is also Treasurer and Board Member of the Association of Catholic Admission and Advancement Officers of New England (ACAAP), and serves as a Eucharistic Minister and on the Advancement Committee of .
