AWARDS

George Bader Memorial Award
Given to honor George Bader, who served for more than 30 years as a coach, director of athletics, and director of physical education in Westwood Schools.

The Isaiah Chase Award
Presented to the member of the graduating class who best exemplifies qualities of character, leadership, and academic excellence.

Recipient: Eliza Kaplan

The Priscilla J. Congdon Memorial Award
This award was initiated to honor the memory of Priscilla J. Congdon, a former social studies teacher at Westwood High School. Congdon supported students from the academically challenged to the academically talented. 

Recipient: Jessica Burns 

The Michael J. Devlin Memorial Award
Given in memory of Lance/Cpl. Michael J. Devlin, USMC, a Westwood High School graduate who was killed in action in 1983. While in Westwood, Devlin excelled in the field of drawing and fine arts.

Recipient: Kylie Blizzard

The Alexander N. Fisher Memorial Award 
Given to a graduating senior who demonstrates promise and portrays the qualities that Fisher brought to the community, including scientific acuity, intellectual and moral integrity, and non-judgemental concern and compassion for all.

Recipient: Leah Lessard

The Phillip F. Flaherty Award
Given in honor of the contributions of Flaherty, former principal of Westwood High School.

Recipient: Kyle Fedorowicz         

The Kevin Harnett Memorial Award
Given to a member of the graduating class in memory of Harnett, a former Westwood student. The recipient receives a trophy, and his or her name is inscribed  on a permanent plaque that is displayed in the school.

Recipient: Katie Ginsberg

The Edward J. Huber Memorial Award
Given in honor of Huber, a former student and Student Council President at Westwood High School, the award is presented to a graduate for outstanding meritorious service to the school and community.

Recipient: Harry Clapsis

The Duane E. Kocina Award
Recognizes a senior who best exemplifies a spirit of cooperation and concern, service to the class, and good citizenship.

Recipient: Kyle Menyhert

The Principal's Award
Given yearly to a senior who exemplifies a spirit of good citizenship and cooperation.

Recipients: Riley Cachelin, Leigh Ronan, and Kevin Walsh               

The Robert L. Raymond Memorial Award
Given to a student who has contributed to the spirit of the school by conducting himself or herself according to such qualities as scholarship, leadership, athletic ability, and personal sense of honor.

Recipient: Matthew Hurley

The E. W. Thurston Memorial Award
Given in memory of Thurston, former Superintendent of Schools, to a student who exhibits enthusiasm for learning, good citizenship, concern for others and leadership qualities.

Recipient: Erin Young 

The Superintendent’s Award
Given yearly under sponsorship of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, this award is presented to the highest ranking senior in the graduating class.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The Francis Abbate Scholarship
Given to recognize the many years of service that Chief "Franny" Abbate gave to Westwood; his family and friends established the scholarship to be awarded to a graduate pursuing a career in criminal justice.

Recipient: Thomas Costello

The Robyn Abrams Memorial Scholarship
Given to seniors who have given back to the children of the community through volunteer service and the sharing of his or her talents.

Recipients: Jackie Audi, Alexandra Jackson, Sophie Karpf, Nicole Lania, Ailyn Pestana, Nicole Pettit, Patrick Scannell, Leah Schroeder, Erica Sweeney, and Scott Sykowski

The Davieson Annis Lacrosse Scholarship
Recognizes a student who has contributed to the school community through assistance and support in a quiet and unassuming manner.

Recipient: Chris Annis

The Julia Babineau Scholarship
Given to a senior member of the National Honor Society who portrays the qualities of scholarship, leadership, and service to others.

Recipient: Kyle Fedorowicz           

The Judith A. Bolles Memorial Scholarship
Honors the memory of Bolles, a long-time teacher of math, as well as a coach confidante, friend and advisor to students at Westwood High School. Given to a senior student who has demonstrated achievements in mathematics and a willingness to share with others, among other strong qualities.

Recipient: Erin Curran

The Christin Capazoli Memorial Scholarhip
Presented to a senior who has a love for singing, like Capazoli.

Recipient: Ellen Kunkel

The C. Louis Cedrone Education Scholarship
Honors Cerdone, a former educator who served the Superintendent of Schools. He was relentless to provide the finest education for students at all levels in Westwood.

Recipient: Caitlin DeLorey

The Celestial Masonic Lodge Scholarship
Granted by the Celestial Masonic Lodge in Westwood, which wished to reward a student with strengths in and out of the classroom, to a student who shows talent in sports, arts, as well as community involvement and leadership.

Recipient: Andrea Winn

The Frances & Michael Chace Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a deserving graduate who has distinguished himself or herself with a love for life, service to others and a fondness for school and community.

Recipient: Mary O’Sullivan

The Andrew Cucchiara Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Cucchiara, a student at Thruston Middle School, this scholarship is given to a graduate with his or her college plans regardless of class standing.

Recipient: Jessica Berry           

The Albert A. Dettbarn Memorial Scholarship
Honors Dettbarn's community spirit, passion for education and contributions as an engineer and operations innovator, and given to a graduate who has demonstrated high academic achievement and service to school or community.

Recipient: Thomas McNulty

The Eklund Family Scholarship
Presented to a senior in memor of Mr. and Mrs. Eklund.

Recipient: Alison McNulty

The Anne K. Ferrari Scholarship
Recognizes a student for high academic achievement, service to community, a sense of inclusiveness, and the consistent demonstration of a desire and willingness to do the right thing.

Recipient: Jacqueline Martin

The Christina Grueter Memorial Scholarship
Given annually to a student who appreciates the arts - especially music - and enjoys sports, while still pursuing a challenging academic program.

Recipient: Alison Campion

The John C. Harrington Memorial Scholarship
Established in the memory of Harrington by his sons, this scholarship is given to a student who personifies his qualities. 

Recipient: Anne Lally

The Marion E. Healy Memorial Scholarship
Given in honor of Healy - a teacher, advisor and business department head at Westwood High School for more than 30 years - to a student who plans to extend his or her interests in the field of business through a two- or four-year college program.

Recipient: Matthew Levine                       

Marguerite B. Knight Scholarship
Recognizes a student who demonstrates good character and hard work.

Recipient: Nicole Chan

The Albert Lester Memorial Scholarship
Honors the memory of Lester, a graduate of the Class of 1978, for his work as an outstanding scholar, avid long-distance bicyclist, and an MIT graduate. Given to a senior who shows promise in the field of education and who has served the community through such programs as Students Against Drunk Driving.

The Lions Club Achievement Scholarship
Presented to a boy and girls who are deemed outstanding in their industry and effort as well as academic achievement. 

Recipients: Kevin Sennott & Leah Lessard

The Jim McCoy Award and Scholarship
Presented in memory of McCoy, Class of 1979, to the student who has been deemed an outstanding football player.

Recipient: David DeCenzo 

The Messina Family Scholarship
Presented in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Messina; Mrs. Messina was a staff member at Westwood High School best remembered for her dedication and kindness.

Recipients: Maria Georgaklis & Joseph Lupica

The Thomas C. Michaud Music Foundation Scholarship
Presented in honor of Tommy Michaud, a member of the Class of 2006, who is remembered as being an "off the wall," kind-hearted person.

Recipient: Nicholas Elliot

The Paul Mitchell Memorial Scholarship
Given in memory of Mitchell, a graduate of Westwood High School, to a student who has displayed good citizenship throughout all four years at the high school.

Recipient: Benjamin Glaser

The Charles and Ivy Morrison Scholarship
Established to recognize members of the graduating class for their accomplishments in academics, sports, or co-curricular activities.

Recipient: Emily McGrail

The Needham Bank Scholarships
Given to students for their efforts and achievements during their years at Westwood High School.

Recipients: Yalda Rostamnezhad, Samuel Pease, and Alison McNulty    

The North Walpole Fish and Game Scholarship
Given to a senior whose effort and achievement have made a positive impact on Westwood High School.

Recipient: Ashley Littlejohn

The Norwood Theatre Scholarship
Presented to a student who embodies passion for the theater arts, discipline for the hard work that drives it, and respect for the collaborative element that brings it to life.

Recipient: Sabrina Farley

The Mac Pendergast Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a graduating member of the swim team who, like Mac, demonstrates a spirit of enthusiasm and a commitment to his teammates and coaches.

Recipient: Kylie Blizzard

The Stephen J. Planeta Memorial Scholarship
Given to a senior who will study physics or engineering at the college level. 

Recipient: Myles McDonough

The Griswold and Dorothy Roche Scholarship
Given annually to deserving members of the senior class who have demonstrated scholastic ability along with responsibility and active participation in school activities.

Recipient: Kara Belinsky

The Christos T. Sarris Scholarship
Recognizes a great educator who impacted the lives of thousands of biology students over a career spanning forty-four years of dedicated service to Westwood High School.

Recipient: Kathryn Gilliland

Todd J. Schwartz Scholarship
Presented to a graduating senior for his or her commitment to the community and for bringing the kind-hearted approach, that Todd was known for bringing, to all aspects of his/her life. 

Recipient: AJ Sadler

William Sheehan Memorial Scholarship
Presented in memory of William Sheehan, who was a Westwood Police officer, to a graduating senior who has demonstrated qualities of leadership, citizenship and a willingness to help others.

Recipient: Jessica Burns

The Thomas Michael Smith Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a member of the senior class who demonstrates the qualities of citizenship, good sportsmanship, and academic achievement in a friendly, unselfish, and unassuming manner. 

Recipient: Matthew Levine

The Richard J. Stack Memorial Scholarship
Given annually to a senior student who has demonstrated promise in the field of Social Studies and who exemplifies commitment to service and leadership in the school.

Recipient: Paul Cook

The Carl R. and Emma Thiesing Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to deserving seniors who will pursue a degree in nursing.

Recipients:  Ani Derderian, Alanna Leahy, Lucienne Montgomery, and Kelley Steeves

The Tina C. True Memorial Scholarship
Presented to a member of the Girl’s Swim Team who possesses the motivation, dedication, and confidence that the 1999 captain of the team and graduate of Westwood High School exemplified.

Westwood Community in Action Art Scholarships
Presented to a deserving member of the graduating class who has shown talent in the visual arts and has been enrolled in at least one course in the Westwood High School Art Department.

Recipient: Patrick Sleight

Westwood Early Childhood Council Scholarship
Presented this year in honor of Kathy Scales, a beloved Westwood Public Schools Preschool teacher, is given annually to a member of the graduating class who has demonstrated academic excellence and a desire to enrich the lives of young children.

The Westwood Friends of the Performing Arts Scholarship
Acknowledges the exemplary talents and dedication of Westwood High School seniors who have participated in the Performing Arts Department.

Sponsored by the Westwood Community Scholarship Fund, this scholarship is given to deserving students in recognition of their achievements.

Recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of members of the senior class in academics, athletics, or co-curricular activities.

Recognizes the outstanding accomplishments in academics, athletics, or co-curricular activities of a member of the senior class whose parent is a Westwood High School alumnus.

Given in memory of William Griffin, a founding member of the Westwood High School Alumni Association, to honor a deserving graduate.

Given to a deserving graduate who exemplifies the traditions of the Wolverines.

Westwood High School Girls Basketball Parents' Scholarship
Awarded to deserving seniors who are members of the girls’ basketball team.

Westwood Girls Youth Lacrosse Scholarship
Presented to senior lacrosse players for their tremendous efforts on the field and their valuable contributions to the girls’ youth lacrosse program.

Recipients: Sarah Biron, Christa DeMovellan, Shannon Hogan, Anne Lally, Emily McGrail, and Mary O’Sullivan

Westwood High School Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship
Established by the Board of Directors of the Westwood High School Sports Hall of Fame, this scholarship is awarded annually to graduating seniors who have excelled in the classroom and who exemplify good character, citizenship, and sportsmanship on the field of play.

Westwood High School PTO-Phillip F. Flaherty Scholarship
The scholarship, given in Mr. Flaherty's name, recognizes a student who has demonstrated good citizenship and leadership.

Presented to a Boston student in good academic standing who has demonstrated good citizenship, leadership, and a commitment to bridging the gap between the two communities.
