This year’s inductees are Paul Torney (1976-2005), who was the Blue Hills Athletic Director for 15 years. Mr. Torney also taught Physical Education and was the school’s Pool Coordinator. Another inductee will be Tim Gardner of Norwood (Class of 1980), who participated in football, basketball and track, and also taught at Blue Hills and coached. Representing Blue Hills’ female athletes will be Kristina O’Donnell of Randolph (Class of 1992) and Kristine Skutt of Dedham (Class of 1994). Both girls were Mayflower League All-Stars in multiple sports and were senior Athletes of the Year.

The Athletic Hall of Fame Committee has had a very busy and productive year making improvements around Blue Hills Regional. They worked in conjunction with the Booster Club, the Blue Hills Foundation and the school to raise the money to purchase new banners in the gym which recognize the school’s championship teams. The nearly 60 banners that were hanging in the gym were replaced with 10 new state of the art banners which list all the champions for each varsity sport.

In the school’s front lobby are three beautiful trophy cases containing a plaque for each Hall of Fame member. The plaques have a picture of each athlete and a listing of the person’s athletic accomplishments. All attendees at this year’s induction will receive a copy of the plaque which is displayed in the trophy case.

The Committee also funded a scholarship which was started by the Hurstak family to honor the memory of John Hurstak, who was a Hall of Fame member. The scholarship goes each year to Blue Hills’ Male and Female Senior Athletes of the Year. This past June, the Committee hosted a golf tournament which was held at the Sharon Country Club. It was a great success and will take place again this year.
