Eagle Scout Project Adds Recycled Materials to Outdoor Learning Center [PHOTOS]

The OLC at Westwood's Sheehan Elementary School serves as an educational tool that integrates science, language, literacy, social studies, math and visual arts.

Another hard-working aspring Eagle Scout is at it again in Westwood. 

student Max Hasenauer recently created art with recycling in the area surrounded by a fence at the 's Outdoor Learning Center, which serves as an outdoor classroom and teaching garden for students at the school.

Hasenauer's project is currently in-progress, and will include the installation of fence panels made with recycled materials, as well as signage with additional recycling education information. Currently, a number of panels comprise recycled cans, bottles and wood. 

Students from each grade level at Sheehan will then take part in a lesson in recycling education as part of the project.

School officials, meanwhile, are encouraging parents and others to submit donations to purchase benches for the OLC, which is also in need of a bird house and bird feeders, as well as native wildlife attracting plants. Those interested in donating should contact Linda Walter at 781-414-9912.  

In late May, the a grand opening ceremony will be held at the OLC to show off the space.
