Deerfield Food Drive Brings in 700 Items

Second graders donated $75 to the Westwood Food Pantry as part of the initiative.

Students in second grade at took some time last Wednesday to lend a helping hand to the Westwood Food Pantry. 

Through a food drive hosted by second-grade teachers Ms. Terese Hardy and Ms. Shauna McCarty, the students collected more than 700 food and household items, and were able to donate $75 to the food pantry. 

That amount came from the $200 raised at .

"The second graders did a food drive when they were in kindergarten and now they are back as second graders," said Patricia Tucke, manager of the Westwood Food Pantry. "I am so impressed by their efforts. The students were so enthusiastic and very well behaved. The Westwood Food Pantry is very grateful to the Deerfield students, families and staff."
