Who Will Run for Kerry's Seat if He's Appointed Secretary of Defense?

Would it be Scott Brown? Congressman Markey or Capuano? Tell us who you think should run.

The Washington Post is reporting that President Obama is considering appointing Massachusetts U.S. Sen. John Kerry as the Secretary of Defense. There was speculation Kerry would be the next Secretary of State.

Kerry's move would open up his current seat. Should he be appointed, a special election would be held to finish out Kerry's term, which expires in 2014.

Conversation from the breakfast table this morning to the morning commute has everyone talking - who will run for Kerry's U.S. Senate seat if he's appointed? Could it be Scott Brown? Or maybe Ed Markey or Michael Capuano?

Tell us: who do you think will run for Kerry's seat if he's appointed? Let us know in the comments section below.

Why are people who you disagree with treated with such contempt? Some of the smartest, most well read, thoughtful, politically savvy people I know voted for Obama and Warren. And, I wouldn't dream of calling some of my friends who voted for the other side, and have those same qualities, names and suggest they are mindless. One reason the GOP got creamed at the state and national levels is that there was so much sheer name calling like this from the right. Just do a content analysis of one of these political threads. As Steve Schmidt pointed out, there were too many Republican Loonies and Wackos. I fear you may be in their ranks. I'll be if you had to give your real name you wouldn't say this stuff. And I wish the editors would simply end name calling of this kind.

Kudos to Ron G. From the little (very, very little) attention I pay looking at political comments here, it's rare to see level-headed thinking, let alone analysis, in Patch forums like this. I appreciate a level of disappointment and even skepticism from folks let down from the results of last week -- and frankly (maybe fortunately), we've all felt it at some point, but to so blithely insult people who voted differently is just irresponsible and - in my opinion - immature.

John Kerry volunteered to go in the military and become a swift boat captain and then became a war hero. Thats more than most of you cowards would do. Mike Capuano Your Next Senator!!

Kind of like supporting someone for Sec Def or any office for that matter, with 5 draft deferments and "...other priorities in the '60s than military service" . Thanks Dick.
