What's Happening with Clapboardtree Near Xaverian?

In this column, You Ask and Patch Answers.

This week "WW Resident" asked Patch to look into the poor road conditions on Clapboardtree Street near Xavarian. Here was the question:

Anyone know what's going on with Clapboardtree St down by Xaverian? I know it was closed earlier this summer for roadwork but it's still a mess. I'm assuming they're waiting for the field/track installation to be completed before finishing work on the road. The current conditions are doing a number on drivers who aren't aware of the suddenly bad road conditions.

Patch spoke with town officials about the problem and learned the issue started with the collapse of a sewer main in March which turned into a much larger project.

Here's what Westwood's Deputy Director of Public Works Chris Gallagher had to say.

The DPW encountered a collapse of the sewer main on Clapboardtree St that resulted in an emergency repair back in March. In order to prevent further problems we have begun a larger project that includes replacing sewer manholes and lining the sewer main.

During the weeks of August 11th and 18th a contractor was replacing sewer manholes on Clapboardtree Street. In order to limit the disturbances to residents, this work was completed at night. The pavement that is now in place is a temporary patch that allows traffic to use the road while we continue to complete the project.

The temporary patch will be replaced with a permanent one that will result in a smoother riding surface for all vehicles traveling down this stretch of Clapboardtree Street.

Gallagher also said the department would review the current signage and add additional signs where necessary to warn drivers about the road condition.
