Westwood Planning Board, Selectmen to Discuss Updates to Westwood Station

Both committees are planning to meet regarding updates to the massive project.

The Westwood Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board will hold a joint meeting tonight as part of the regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting at the Westwood Senior Center.

Both committees had planned on a joint meeting last week, but later cancelled it after multiple scheduling conflicts. The substance of tonight's meeting will revolve around updates to Westwood Station, specifically potential litigation.

"The Westwood Station project is not at a state of finality," said Town Planner Nora Loughnane. "Things are moving along, though."

The notion was reiterated by Westwood Station Planning Manager Glen Garber.

"I think the land is in a state of flux - the real estate is in a state of flux," Garber said. "But the economic development activity will certainly occur there. This is literally where it all stands."

There have been town-wide controversies surrounding the project, and there has been opposition due to money lost in the area of small businesses throughout town.

Westwood Station will be located so close to Interstate 95 and Interstate 93 that representatives believe that it will be an ideal place for living and business. The area will be equipped with shopping areas, dining centers and residential living.

The goal is to make it an easily accessible economic center. There will be Wi-Fi throughout the area, transit systems, sheltered train stations, health spas, fitness centers and more.

Residentially, there will be living areas ranging from one bedroom apartments to luxury lofts.
