Westwood Looking for Residents to Help Fill Boards, Committees

Interested residents should contact Westwood Town Hall with questions and can submit resumes and descriptions of expertise for a certain spot on a board of committee.

Westwood Officials this week announced that they are looking to fill certain open spots on various town boards and committees. 

The following groups are currently looking for members:

Westwood Commission on Disability: Associate Members Needed

This commission essentially provides support to residents with disabilities and their families, as well as monitors physical access in local businesses and public offices. 

Westwood Communication and Technology Advisory Board

The Westwood Information Technology (IT) Department and CTAB oversee newly accepted systems, technologies and infrastructure issues. 

Westwood Comprehensive Planning Committee

This committee's main goal is help to shape Westwood's future, by updating the town's Comprehensive Master Plan, which was adopted about 10 years ago. The updating process comprises meetings to help plan and discuss various areas of interest, including open space, economic development, and housing issues.

Westwood Conservation Commission:Associate Members Needed

The commission is the official agency charged with the protection of Westwood's natural resources. Also known as ConCom, the commission advises other officials and boards on various conservation issues that relate to their areas of responsibility.

Westwood Cultural Council

The council works with the Massachusetts Cultural Council to help bring art and culture to Westwood. 

Westwood Economic Development Advisory Board

The EDAB comprises nine residents who are appointed by the Westwood Board of Selectmen. All members have experience in law, finance, business, real estate development, and municipal governance. The board in turn then advises the Board of Selectmen and other town committees on a range of matters relevant to economic development. 

Westwood Historical Commission

Established in 1992, the commission's goal is to preserve, protect and help develop the historical or archaeological assets of Westwood.

Westwood Human Rights Committee

This committee aims to help develop and support diversity, tolerance and appreciation in the Westwood community.

Westwood Zoning Board of Appeals

The ZBA comprises three regular members and six associate members and meets the third Wednesday of the month, when it will hear cases relating to requests for variances or special permits. 

Westwood Youth & Family Services

Charged with advocating for the health and welfare of Westwood's youth and their families, Westwood Youth & Family Services has various goals, including:

  • Assessing the needs of youth and families within the context of Westwood, as well as their needs as individuals facing the larger world.
  • Developing programs and services to meet those needs and promote the realization of individual growth and development
  • Working with the Westwood School Department, Westwood Recreation Department, Westwood Police Department, and other town departments to coordinate or develop efforts to address the needs of youths and their families. 
  • Encouraging effective utilization of programs and services available to youths in the community.
  • Providing education resources to all members of the community on important matters.
