Westwood DPW Updates: Jan. 9-15

Brush will be cleared on main roads this week and tree limbs will be removed with a bucket truck.

Call it the winter that wasn't. At least not yet.

Compared to the same time last year, snow is but a distant memory to Westwood so far this season. But that doesn't mean the Westwood Department of Public Works isn't busy each week.

In addition to DPW normal activities, you may see the following work this week in Westwood:

  • Roadside brush will continue to be cleared along main roads for safety of travel.
  • Tree limbs that are falling and could cause dangerous conditions and travel problems during the winter will continue to be proactively removed with a bucket truck as time allows.
  • Monday, Jan. 9 marks the beginning of Christmas Tree pickup, which will continue for two weeks. Trees will be picked up on or following your normal trash schedule. This collection is performed in-house.

The Westwood DPW has also issued the following reminders for residents during the winter months:

  • There is no parking allowed on any street between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. of any day during the period of Dec. 1, 2011 though March 31, 2012.
  • Remove all portable basketball and sports apparatuses off streets.
  • Put markers along property lines to assist the DPW in preventing lawn damage during the winter months.
  • If using a private contractor for removing snow on property during the winter, please ensure that they do not deposit the snow in the public way.
  • Remember to check the Town of Westwood website for any snow updates throughout the winter.
