Selectmen Approve Water Easement for Library

Two DPW applications were approved at the Monday meeting, one of which was a water easement for the Westwood Public Lbrary.

The Westwood Board of Selectmen Monday night approved an application for fire service and a water easement for the new .

Westwood Department of Public Works Director Vicki Quiram came before the board during Monday night’s meeting to present the two documents. The water easement, she explained, is 10 feet wide and travels the property of the new library.

It will provide domestic water service for the library, and will be maintained by the Dedham-Westwood Water District. The town’s attorney, Tom McCusker, acknowledged that he had reviewed the documents and had no concerns.

There was only one concern coming from Selectmen Clerk Nancy Hyde, who asked how it would relate to the Colburn School property.

“The decision was made to completely separate the water service,” Quiram said in response. “It is private to the Colburn and public to the library.”

Quiram added that it will cost slightly more to do this, but it is insignificant. She noted that the easement goes to both hydrants and allows the DWWD to take care of the line.

Meanwhile, no more disruptions on High Street in relation to the library work are expected, Quiram said.

Town Administrator Mike Jaillet also told the board that the library construction is right on target in regards to schedule and cost. He said that currently masonry work and roof work are being done.
