Robert Jubinville Wins Governor's Council Primary

He hopes to spend the next two months meeting constituents.

Election officials announced Thursday night that won the contested primary for the second district of Governor's Council.

Jubinville won the popular vote in many of the 40 towns in the second district, capturing 55 percent of the vote in Natick with his closest opponent, Bart Timilty, winning 23 percent.

In the coming months, Jubinville plans to speak at local gatherings and hopes to raise support by introducing himself to many area residents, he said.

"We're going to get working right away," Jubinville said. "It feels good that the voters have chosen me and think I'm the best candidate."

Governor's Council is one of the state's oldest elected boards which acts to appoint state officials including judges and parole board members. It also advises the governor on issuing pardons and communications.

As the Democratic nominee, Jubinville will face Republican Earl Sholley in November.

RE: Governor's Council is one of the state's oldest elected boards which acts to appoint state officials including judges and parole board members. However, it's scary that a criminal attorney is the democratic nominee for Governors council. Isn't this a conflict of interest when a criminal defense attorney is appointing judges and advising the governor on issuing pardons and communications? Moreover , from a fiscal stand-point, do we really need to spend $26K per year, per councilor for a part-time position that meets once per week and sometimes less? Eileen DeSorgher
