Preview of Memorial Day Celebrations

Here's a look at what kind of celebrations are going on around Town for Memorial Day, Monday, May 28.

The Westwood Memorial Day Parade will kick things off as the celebration departs from the steps of Town Hall at 10 a.m. and makes its march through downtown Westwood. Westwood resident and WWII veteran, Lt. George Brennan will be this year's Parade Marshall.

The parade will troop through Westwood, down High Street, and into Westwood Cemetary for official Memorial Day Services to honor those that gave their lives defending America.

Westwood residents interersted in helping out the celebrations have a few activities they can participate in. The first is restoring some of the old, small flags at the cemetary. Those interested can stop by the cemetaries Friday morning, May 25 at 9:30 a.m. to aid in the replacement of the flags.

Graves sites of veterans are currently being decorated and Town officials urge family members that are related to, or a friend of, a veteran buried in the cemetary to decorate his or her grave stone in anticipation of their service. These preparations will culminate Saturday, May 26 as Town officials will plant fresh geraniums in both the old and new cemetaries on behalf of the Town. This again is taking place at 9:30 a.m. Those looking to lend a hand are welcome to attend.
