Planning Board Approves Special Permit For Morrison Cell Tower

The permit would allow for a replacement of the currently existing cell tower.

The Westwood Planning Board last week unanimously voted to approve a special permit regarding a proposed .

“There was limited discussion, mostly centered around revisions to the landscape plans to preserve as many of the mature trees as possible,” Town Planner Nora Loughnane said. “The board approved the special permit with standard conditions, on a vote of five to zero.”

The application for the project was filed by New Cingular Wireless PCS and involves building a 90-foot structure with a maximum 36 inch diameter, with it tapering from 30 inches. It was originally brought before the Planning Board in May and discussed again at another meeting in July.

The tower would replace an existing one, and aims to be similar in structure, with a flagpole style monopole that will have nine interior antennas, associated coax cables, conduits and other electronic equipment.

The carrier involved is AT&T. The tower will expand coverage and will update 3G and 4G.

The Westwood Board of Selectmen also talked briefly about the tower at its last meeting, but decided to wait on a vote until the Planning Board discussed and voted.

The Morrison Cell Tower will be an agenda item at the next meeting of the Board of Selectmen in August, with a vote expected.
