Public Hearing on Westwood Lodge:

A Public Hearing to inform residents of ongoing incidents, issues and concerns related to Westwood Lodge Hospital operations and to hear from representatives from the Westwood Lodge organization  (Greg Brownstein, Chief Executive Officer at Westwood Lodge) as well as representatives from the  Department of Mental Health ( Marcia Fowler, Commissioner) and our local representatives (Senator Mike Rush and Representative Paul McMurtry).

Amend Charter Language:

Whereas the (insert date) Annual Town Meeting voted to approve amendments to the Town Charter and authorized the filing of a home rule petition for such purposes, and whereas the General Court has raised questions concerning the language in said charter as it relates to the nature of the annual town election, the General Court has requested that the Board of Selectmen approve an amendment to clarify the same.  Now, therefore, where it is anticipated that a revision to the Charter for such purposes will make the Charter more accessible to voters generally, I move that the Board approve an amendment to Section 2-2-1 of the proposed Town Charter as follows: delete the word “meeting” and insert in place thereof the word “election”; delete the following, “, but the only business to be conducted on that day shall be”, and insert in place thereof the word “for”; and delete the word, “the” prior to the word, “balloting”, so that the section provides as follows:

The annual town election shall be held on the last Tuesday in April of each year for the election of town officers and balloting on all matters which are to be determined by official ballot.

And further, that the Board authorize the Chair to sign a letter to the Town’s State Representative and Senator notifying them of the Board’s vote, and to further represent the position of the Board in discussions, correspondence, or testimony concerning the revision as may be necessary.
