DPW Begins Road Work, Paving to Come Next Week

Certain roads in Westwood, such as Pond Street, are already being prepared for the paving.

Drivers along Pond Street in Westwood last week may have noticed a bit of a bumpy ride.  

The reason? Pond Street and other roads in town are now being prepared for mill and overlay work as part of . The actual paving of roads is expected to begin next week, according to the Westwood Department of Public Works. 

A milling contractor hired by Westwood was in town most of the week preparing the roads that are part of the project's mill and overlay work, said DPW Director Vicki Quiram. That portion of the project includes work to portions of Clapboardtree Street, Pond Street, Forbes Road, Canton Street, Olde Carriage Road, Wagon Road, and Wellington Drive.

While the paving itself should begin next week, the process of paving is weather dependent, Quiram said, and rainy conditions could cause delays. 

"We will be working very hard to get the paving finished as soon as possible after the milling is complete," Quiram wrote in an email to Westwood Patch. "After the milling is complete, the paving of all the 2012 streets should be about a week's work."

Reclamation streets in the project, which includes portions of Everett Street and Forbes Road, among others, will follow the paving, and then the crack sealing will take place to roads that need it. The crack sealing portion should not disrupt traffic, Quiram said.
