DA Awards Westwood 'Operation Graduation' Grant

To help fund food, entertainment and supplies for the drug and alcohol free post-graduation event.

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey has awarded Westwood an “Operation Graduation” grant of $250 again this year, helping to fund food, entertainment and supplies for the drug and alcohol free post-graduation event organized to keep the class of 2012 safe on graduation day.

“We know that providing these kinds of with alcohol- and drug-free activities after graduation cuts into the pressure to drink that night, and increases the odds that new graduates might avoid taking chances on the road or elsewhere,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “I am pleased to offer this support Westwood’s commitment to making this a safe night again this year.”

In addition to the $250 Operation Graduation grant Morrissey delivered during the regular roundtable meeting between his office, police and school officials, he also awarded Westwood the same amount for last year’s graduation event. Both grants are funded not from tax dollars but drawn from funds seized and then forfeited as part of the prosecution of drug dealers in Norfolk County.

“Westwood obviously takes the safety of its students seriously and is diligent in seeking all the resources available to keep them safe,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “It is a modest contribution, but I am pleased to offer my partnership where this office can help.”
